Adoption Attorney: Legal Representation for Birth Parents
As an expectant mother, you have the right to your own legal representation. Choosing to place your child for adoption is one of the most important decisions you will make in your entire life.
I believe it is extremely important for expectant mothers to know and understand their legal rights and all the paperwork they will be signing.
There is no cost to expectant mothers for legal representation as it is paid for by the prospective adoptive parents.
I represent expectant parents even if they are already working with an attorney or agency on an adoption plan but desire their own representation.
As your attorney, I will review and explain all the legal documents, advise you on adoption-related issues, assist with the negotiation of living expenses if applicable and assist with negotiating a post-adoption contact agreement between you and the adoptive parents.
I can also attend the consent signing to ensure that you are making your decision voluntarily and that you do not feel pressured by anyone.
Having an adoption attorney represent you helps to ensure that you:
- Get your concerns addressed and questions answered.
- Know your legal rights.
- Address the birth father’s rights.
- Understand the different types of adoption (open, semi-open, and closed).
- Make informed choices.
- Have guidance and support.
- Receive an expert explanation of all legal documents.
My practice focuses exclusively on adoption law, and I have extensive experience counseling and representing expectant parents in adoption proceedings. Being an attorney and a licensed mental health counselor uniquely qualifies me to help you understand the consequences, both legal and emotional, of placing your child for adoption.
